By sending an electrical current, it allows you to adjust the speed of the fan. The black wire on a ceiling fan is responsible for powering the blades. However, if your ceiling fan doesn’t have a light fixture, then you likely won’t have a blue wire. It’s essential to line up the blue wire with the right wire when installing a ceiling fan otherwise, the light will not turn on. In a ceiling fan, the light fixture is usually located in the middle of the unit, where the light bulbs are also located. The blue wire is responsible for controlling the electric current to your lighting kit. The white wire is the neutral wire and it completes the circuit. The black wire is the hot wire and it carries the power to the fan. The blue wire is the live wire and it carries the power to the switch. What is the difference between Blue, Black and White Wire? Plus, the black and blue wires in your home’s electrical system serve a special purpose – they’re not just there for decoration! The color coding helps keep things organized when you have multiple fixtures or devices with different needs, like ceiling fans vs lights.

The black wire usually has only one purpose-to supply electricity for lighting fixtures but it doesn’t extend over into controlling these lights without connecting both wires together with a box or switch somewhere in between them this will make sure you can turn off and lock all bathroom vanity mirror shades easily using just one remote! The blue wire on your ceiling fan is to control power running from the light fixture. Where does the Blue Wire go on a Ceiling Fan?

In common law, you cannot be held responsible for free advice, unless you are a competant person. even my DD knows to switch off the mains first, if she was going to remove a switch plate. We cant protect any numpty who fails to switch off the mains when working on the sparky stuff.

and i hate peeps being ripped off by so called pros, esp for small simple jobs.Īnd another problem is just getting a pro in to do minor jobs. The whole aim of this site is to save money. most diyers can do simple electrical/plumbing work etc. There is obviously a happy medium to be reached here. I guess you are liable (or Martins Money Tips). I also worry about people following the "practical" advice that some people on this forum give - if you tell them to do something and they injure themselves. The instructions do say not to connect the loop wire from the ceiling rose to the fan, so i presume the red doesnt go there. Help!! Where does the red wire from the ceiling fan go? Is it another live to be wired with the brown? The instructions do not mention the red wire only the brown, blue and green/yellow. So on the new light, obviously, brown = live, blue = neutral, green/yellow = earth but what do i do with the red wire labeled "light" on the new fan/light. My current light is very simple, a brown and blue wire, live and neutral. 3 earth wires (connected together) - 2 black neutral (connected together) - 1 black live - 3 red loop wires (connected together). My ceiling rose has standard uk type light wiring with 9 wires. The fan/light has four wires coming from it labelled as follows, Blue - Neutral, Brown - Live, Green/Yellow - Earth & Red - Light. The instructions are very vague (or i am very thick). I just bought a ceiling fan/light from B & Q.
